God Will Be By Your Side (Isaiah 43:1-2)
One of the most emphatic promises of the Lord’s protection for our lives is recorded in Isaiah chapter 43.
Isaiah 43:
1 But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.
2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you. When you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.”
» A Word of Comfort and Belonging
Here we see our God, the Almighty God, giving a word of deep comfort to the people of Israel — promises that extend perfectly to our lives today.
The Lord assures that He will never abandon us. He declares that He is with us to protect us, guard us, keep evil away, and grant us victory over all our battles.
» The Promise Is Not the Absence of Trials
Pay close attention to a crucial detail: our God did not say that we would not pass through deep waters, nor that we would be spared from walking through fire.
What He guaranteed is that when these adversities come, we will not drown and we will not be burned by the flames.
And why such protection? Simply because the Lord is with us — and because we belong to Him.
» Fighting with the Assurance of Victory
Therefore, believe with all your heart: the Lord God will never let you fall, because you belong to Him.
He will save you and lead you safely along a path that will take you to salvation.
He will protect you from all evil in this world, where we inevitably must fight — but with the absolute certainty that we fight to win.
We overcome simply because our God walks beside us.
That is why, if we pass through the waters, we will not drown; and if we pass through the fire, we will not be burned.
Rest your faith in this truth, for the Almighty Lord is with you!
